Nancy Chao

Nancy began her architectural and design career with an Arts degree at Western University in London Ontario. She then went on to complete her Bachelor of Architectural Studies and Master of Architecture at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. She joined Gow Hastings Architects in 2013 after working at various architecture firms across North America, including Kobayashi + Zedda Architects, in Whitehorse, Yukon Territories, Luce Et Studio Architects Inc in San Diego, California, and Moriyama & Teshima and +tongtong in Toronto.

At these offices, Nancy was exposed to several aspects of the industry, allowing her to gain experience and hone her skills in all phases of project development. While at Luce Et Studio Architects, she provided design support and contract administration for the College for Creative Studies at A. Alfred Taubman Centre for Design Education in Detroit MI and the Steelcase Premium Group in Chicago, Illinois. At Moriyama & Teshima, Nancy was deeply involved in the Ismaili Centre and Jamatkhana – a Community and Religous Centre for His Highness the Aga Khan. At +tongtong, Nancy provided project support on a renovation to the outdoor patio at The Drake Hotel Sky Yard, and the Delta Hotel Restaurant in Waterloo, Ontario.

Nancy has gained valuable experience leading projects at the smaller scale from schematic design through to construction completion. Her background in Fine Arts greatly contributes to her aptitude in custom millwork design and interior detailing, 3D visualization, furniture and material selection, and client presentations.
