Humber College Design Centre

The Humber School of Applied Technology is comprised of the departments of Interior and Industrial design, Architectural Technology, Robotics and Electronics housed in three buildings at Humber’s north campus. This project’s objective was to consolidate the design and electronics departments into prominent clusters on the campus, increasing the profile and visibility of the school.

The new design spaces are conceived as open plan interconnected studios which optimize student interaction, but through the use of a movable wall panel system can be enclosed to offer privacy. Informal teaching spaces are separated from a main campus corridor by a feature curtain wall which allows the larger college community glimpses into the studios and student work displays. The new electronics areas provide students with a bright and efficient space for work with extensive connectivity for networking. Both the design and electronics clusters are differentiated from adjacent college spaces by a consistent colour and material palette which help to reinforce the school’s presence on campus.
