Humber College Digital Communications Centre

The School of Media Studies and Information Technology was previously located at various locations on the Humber College campus and required a consolidated state of the art facility. The intention is to expose the journalism students in one location to the various methods for presenting stories; print, television, radio, and web cast and to provide them with on the job training.

The facility accommodates 500 students from Humber’s Journalism, Broadcasting, Film, and Television Production programs consisting of a TV studio with three sets, an FM radio station, a print newsroom, a web casting area and faculty offices. The students broadcast from this facility Humber TV, Humber Radio, and distribute the college newspaper, “Humber Et Cetera”. Students learn and perform in a multidisciplinary open area in zones specific to their various activities.

The focus of this project is a custom wall which divides the control rooms and studios from the newsroom. The wall serves multiple purposes by accommodating load bearing elements, sound proofing, display cases and sightlines into the Control Rooms.
