Description

The new Bachelor of Science Nursing Program at Georgian College's Owen Sound Campus has been transformed with modern, purpose-built classrooms and labs. An apartment lab, flex lab, high-fidelity simulation lab and multi-purpose classroom/event space support the Nursing Program as well as Practical Nursing, Personal Support Worker, Development Services Worker, Police Foundations and Protection, Security and Investigation.

The laboratories are designed to simulate modern hospital, clinic and home-care settings, allowing students to apply their knowledge and skills in near-reality learning experiences. Located in the Health and Wellness Wing, the new spaces include a state-of-the-art high-fidelity simulation lab with two simulation rooms and high-fidelity mannequins that mimic bodily functions; two flex labs with eight-beds for simulation and skills training; a teaching apartment lab with kitchen, dining, living and bedroom areas that facilitate training for in-home care; and a flexible, multi-purpose classroom/event space that can be opened for one hundred people, or partitioned for two smaller groups.

Design finishes model healthcare environments with rubber flooring, wood veneer, and porcelain tile—favourites for cleanliness, durability and acoustics. Geared towards increasing health-care staffing throughout the region, the Nursing Program’s digitally-enabled classrooms and labs will have a meaningful impact on a community in need of nurses.
