Chi Nguyen is an interdisciplinary graphic designer who works across the fields of visual communication, architecture, and urbanism. Over the years, she has led the communications efforts of some of Toronto’s top architecture studios while designing books, exhibitions, digital experiences and analog interactions. Her work has been exhibited at the Lethaby Gallery and Somerset House in London, UK, and the Hong Kong–Shenzhen Biennale on Architecture and Urbanism in China. She was a contributor to the book Engaged Urbanism, Cities & Methodologies from UCL UrbanLab and a writer and editorial designer for Unknown Quantities, University of the Arts London’s interdisciplinary journal on art, design, and criticism.
Chi holds degrees in Architecture (Carleton University, 2004), Graphic Communication Design (Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, 2014), and a doctorate in Graphic Design and Urbanism (The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, 2023). She has also received additional Art and New Media Design training from OCAD University and the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design.
Chi’s PhD project at The Bartlett examined the public’s role in shaping cities. It explored the relationship between urban change and different concepts of ‘public’: publication, public space, and public consultation. Her design practice and research interests centre on creative ways to communicate about the built environment and engage diverse public participants in its transformation.
