Description

This project converted a conference facility in a former Howard Johnson’s Hotel into a new state-of-the-art Chef School for Centennial College in Toronto. The renovation dramatically transforms the 1970’s building with professional kitchens where students can confidently gain hands-on experience in culinary environments similar to those in the world’s best hospitality venues.

The School introduces a new interactive teaching platform that allows culinary students to both observe and practice in real time. The state-of-the art culinary labs have an all-purpose lab, bake lab and multicultural lab for international cuisine.

Teaching spaces are differentiated by colour and branded with iconic super-graphics to indicate their unique operation.

These exposed labs reflect the changing profile of the culinary industry by offering students a hands-on experience, rather than learning within more conventional demonstration kitchens. We worked closely with the Hospitality department to develop the functional programming and help determine their needs.
