Description

The two storey addition revitalizes the heritage-designated École Sir Adam Beck Junior School (SAB) to provide new kindergarten spaces and grade classrooms in support of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Full Day Kindergarten Program. Two new vestibules and classrooms, along with a new exterior roof canopy for sheltered play space, were designed to expand SAB’s offering of early years education, and meet the Ministry of Education’s teaching and barrier free standards.

SAB is a unique JK-5 dual-track French Immersion and English school located in the idyllic Alderwood community in Toronto, Canada. Conceived as an economic modular addition, our design is a contemporary insertion to complement the existing historic structure.

The project fits within TDSB’s sustainability framework. Materials, paints and finishes were chosen for their low environmental impact and recycled content.

This renovation was completed in two phases in order to accommodate for ongoing school operations, and ensure minimal disruption to existing spaces during construction.
