Description

The Bahen Centre for Collaborative Interactive Digital Media (CCIDM) at the University of Toronto was an in-fill of the 4th and 5th floors of an existing mezzanine on the St.George campus. The renovation provides additional floor area to accommodate interactive digital collaborative space for computer scientists, engineers, scholars, and artists.

We organized the space with individual research spaces occupying a perimeter zone immediately surrounding the central core of labs and workshops. At the heart of the CCIDM is a dramatic new staircase, suspended in an existing light well. Clear glazed partitions were introduced to improve access to natural lighting in response to complaints from existing building users.
