Description

Located on Georgian Bay, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Armstrong Cottages sit on a remote island only accessible by boat. Monumental figures on the rocky landscape, the timber-clad buildings are CLT and placed parallel to the shoreline allowing a series of indoor spaces and outdoor porches to naturally unfold, alternating views of the water and inland landscape. We worked collaboratively with Design Architect Edward Jones of Dixon Jones Architects, and with the client to observe the site and create a building that deeply respects and understands the local physical and cultural context, linking land and water to heighten the visitors awareness of the subtle beauty of the Canadian Landscape.
