Description

Gow Hastings has been working on all three floors of the School of Interior Design (SID) Building since 2006. The latest project includes a Digital Fabrication Lab for the Faculty of Communication and Design (FCAD).

The first phase was a feasibility study to create a Digital Fabrication Laboratory and larger Multipurpose Teaching Space at the Toronto Metropolitan University School of Interior Design on 302 Church St. The FCAD FabLab, a digital fabrication facility, supports 3D printing (FDM & SLA), 3D scanning, large format laser cutting, vinyl cutting and more. The FabLab is available for use by all current FCAD students, faculty and staff producing prototypes for curriculum-based or academic research projects.

It is a space where users can generate physical prototypes from digital designs or hand drawn illustrations using the labs diverse fabrication equipment. The project converts an existing SID classroom to bring smaller fabrication labs across campus into one facility.

The second stage of the project included full architectural and interior design services, and coordination with consultants and the contractor throughout construction of the lab and teaching space.
