TMU Interior Design Studio Present on Healthy Interiors

Last week, Valerie Gow joined the TMU 4th year Interior Design studio as guest critic for final reviews. As a moderator for the Healthy Interior Design Symposium, Valerie was excited to see the thoughtful design projects based on the research!

Taking lessons learned from the pandemic, the studio focused on proactive interior design strategies to mitigate viral transmission and reduce indoor air pollutants. The studio built upon knowledge from scientists, engineers, epidemiologists, visualization designers, and public health experts whose work investigates indoor air quality and infectious disease transmission.

Students explored design strategies addressing personal and shared mitigation responsibilities, as shown in the illustration by Rose Wong (adapted from Ian M. Mackay’s original “Swiss Cheese" model). Congrats to the students whose work will contribute to a manual of guidelines for the Interior Designers of Canada to equip designers with strategies for shaping healthy interiors!
